A Return Of Depression - A Ramble

Hi there,

Today I wanted to talk about something serious here on my website. Over the past several months, I've been lagging on quite a bit - real life and here in the community. I have tried doing everything I can to get important things done - such as announcing winners of contests and/or hosting events - but doing this stuff has been so much harder on me than anytime before.

Over the past several months, I've had something return that I didn't expect would ever return. Depression. I had depression before I joined this community and that is really what got me more involved in the community. I started playing Wizard in July of 2009, but I became more active in supporting community efforts in October of 2009 - ten years ago! Ten years ago, I joined the community as a 16-year old that needed time away from what was stressing me out offline. Wizard101 and its community was the place I chose to spend that time. Since that time, I've made many new friends that have come and gone. It's tough seeing so many friends here leave over a decade whether it's conflict or just a busy life. But, I'm thankful to have been able to make good memories during those times.

Today, I was questioning whether to tell everyone here why I've been different this year. Why I've been lagging behind on new blog posts, being involved in a conflict/drama within the community, etc. The truth is that I've put off accepting that my depression has been returning for well over a year now. It's made me question many things in real life and here in the community. I've questioned why I'm blogging, whether people were talking about me behind my back, and even if the events are something the community still likes. Heck, I went on to have an event, the Holiday Mashup, when I was going through one of the toughest times I've had. I can point out many negatives about this event. But instead, I'm going to use this post to point out positives.

One main positive thing about our recent Holiday Mashup event is the people that did support and/or attend the event. The ones that don't only point to contests are always the ones we try to work for. There are fewer in the community that appreciates the true intent of events (not just ours) and will only go if they have a chance of winning something. But when anyone supports/attends our events for the actual purpose of community involvement, it brightens up my day. I don't care if we had two people attend or support for that purpose. You brighten my day! I know not everyone is able to attend our events and I want to thank those that just spread the word about them. For a while now, I've thought about not having them anymore. But, those who truly support the events will be the reason they continue. Heck, even if there are 10 of us left. We'll do them for the sake of true community involvement/togetherness.

I really don't know what the future holds for me. But I hope it's bright! I want to end this post to let you know that I am okay and that I hope to get back to my usual self eventually with the help that I am going to get in real life by talking to a professional. I have good days & bad days. Today is actually a halfway good/bad day. But I still have hope. Why? Well, first of all, I LOVE Life and I'm fighting depression. In all honesty, I couldn't say that before I joined the community. While I haven't been myself for a while now, I am going to try my best to do things that I have always wanted to do but had something in the back of my mind telling me that someone would think it was weird or pointless. I feel that if I break that shell, I will once again break this depression. I hope y'all will join me on this strange new journey. I hope to make new posts soon & get caught up on things I've been behind on for months. It might take a bit. But stick with me. Thank you for reading, everyone. Until next time, I'll see you around the spiral.  ~ Edward Lifegem

I had to choose another random photo to add to this post... So here you go ;)

SpiralVision Group Questing - One Year Anniversary!

Hello Wizards!

I hope you're having a wonderful start of the week. Today, I wanted to talk a bit about something that I haven't really posted on my blog in months - group questing! Yesterday, September 9th, we got to celebrate our one year anniversary of Wizard101 Group Questing!

I still can't believe that we've been group questing for an entire year. When we first started this, I didn't think it would last this long. Sure, we have friends come & go, but we continue moving forward through each world. We've had such amazing adventures & laughs from Wizard City through Zafaria. Soon enough, we'll enter the world of Avalon - one of the best worlds in the game!

I look forward to making many new memories with this amazing group (which includes anyone & every one that joins us). So I'd like to thank each and every one of you for participating in our group questing adventures whether you stop by to help or quest with us. Here's to another year!

Community Apprecation Day: Thank You!

Hi there!

Happy Community Apprecation Day to all of you! Today, many of the fansite owners/community leaders have made posts and/or videos sharing their appreciation for this wonderful community. Today, I'm doing the same thing. Let me start off with saying that I appreciate each & every one of you for everything that you do to make this community a great place to be! Whether you're a content creator or just someone that plays the game that we all love, you do make a positive difference in this community. So thank you for being here with us! Now, I'm going to go into detail about what I appreciate about this community.

For years, I've come across many great people that did so much for the community. The community fansite owners - both Wizard101 and Pirate101 - have been a few of these great people. All of the Fansite Owners, official or not, put so much time and energy into their sites! With that, they all provide great information to their readers and bring all of the community together. Many of these sites have been here for years and still provide important information that helps improve our gameplay experience. There are also new sites that have joined that have also made a very positive difference in this awesome community. I would like to send a major thank you to all of the fansite owners in this community! Continue keeping up the great work & bringing this community together. If you're reading and would like to check out the official fansites (some of which have links to other great blogs in the community), feel free to click on the hyperlinks below!

One thing that is somewhat, but also not so much, new, are streamers! Twitch has been a great way to bring the community together. I'm sure many of you can agree with me that the streamers of the community (not including myself here) have made a positive impact on the community. How so? Well, they are able to get many in the community together for various events - whether its PvP or even questing together. I would like to thank ALL of the streamers in this community for doing what you can to bring this community together through your channels. I can say right now that I've had many great memories - such as the one above when we were at one of Heather&Val's streams from 2017. This last-minute event made it to one of my all-time favorite memories in this community. Heather, Tara, AwesomeTheSauce, and many other streamers have also supported just-starting content creators throughout the community. That is greatly appreciated. I hope the streaming community continues to grow and all streamers continue to join together to make a larger positive difference in this community than has already been made. It's definitely possible!

One last thing I'd like to say is that I lost track of this appreciation for this community over the years. That's something I never thought would happen. It wasn't until recently that I was able to see that I do appreciate the things that everyone does for this community. I've had my fair share of regretful moments in this community. I've said many regretful things, especially over the past few years. But despite that, I still appreciate what all of you do - content creator or not. My hope is that one day we can all join together to make this community the best place it can be. We can still have our disagreements, except you better not ever say that you hate vanilla ice cream. Then, we might have an issue. 😂 Overall, I want to say that every single last person has a place in this community. Thank you all so much for reading. And Happy 11th Birthday to Wizard101. 💗

Aladdin Returns!

Hello Wizards!

I have some breaking news from the Spiral. The Hero that saved everyone from a total monster takeover during Halloween of 2017 has finally returned to the Spiral. Aladdin is back! He has many plans to make the Spiral the best place it can be for everyone.

He looks forward to sharing his new adventures with y'all over the next month or so! And if you see him in the Spiral, be sure to welcome him back & thank him for saving Wizard City. Hopefully, a takeover like that never happens again.... right? It's not going to happen again...? Anyway, let's celebrate this spooky season with Prince ALaddIn's Return to the Spiral!
